When I first heard of LIS I thought it was Medicaid but in fact it is two separate things. I have Medicaid applications with me and I might help fill them out but I normally will leave it with a person and tell them to take it or mail it to their local DFCS(medicaid takes more time and alot more information to get approved and there are caseworkers who are paid to this). So, I'll tell them where to go or mail the forms and I will give them the forms but I am NEVER waiting on Medicaid. LIS is pretty cut and dry if the income is below x, then they will qualify(some limit). If I follow this link: https://www.medicare.gov/find-a-plan/questions/home.aspx and then input a clients zip code, Medicare id, last name, Part A or Part B effective date, and the clients birthday. It will show me what PDP plan they are currently in and in the top right hand corner it will tell me their subsidy percentage or if they are a full dual. 10-14 days after I have submitted a LIS application this is where I go to check for their approval.So, no I don't get a direct response from Social Security but I can see what I need to know and I can see it before the client starts getting his/her approval letters in the mail. I pray that your agents DO NOT get bogged down trying to make this a main marketing point. It is an option to "find" money for premiums. Locally, for business build relationships with pharmacies, doctors, dentist, housing managers, door knock, cold call... whatever it takes to keep suspects in your funnel.
