Idaho and North Carolina Agents

If you sell in Idaho, you likely received the warning from the Idaho Department of Insurance via e-mail this situation involving contacting seniors on Plan F and attempting to get them a better Plan G. See the video: Idaho has adopted a rule as of July, 2017 that makes it more difficult for insurers to single out specific plans for higher-than-average rate increases. It does not make it impossible, but "generally" they must give the same rate increase among all of the various Medicare Supplements being offered. As such, they find it unethical if not against their rules completely, to try to dissuade seniors there from giving up their Plan F in lieu of another plan by a new agent. See the warning, and govern yourself accordingly. Anytime fear is used as a tactic, it is usually frowned upon by all regulators. See the memo: Idaho Department of Insurance - Memorandum As to North Carolina, with Mutual of Omaha's latest brand launch there, United World, they have brought their height/weight increased rates to the state. So, for all new plans, you must be keenly aware of the height and weight of your potential clients prior to merely giving out a quote from the quote engine. Remember that the best way to obtain a rate in states where height/weight is an issue is either by using the Outline of Coverage or the Mutual Producer's Access site where you can plug in the height and weight to get an accurate result. Reminder: Due to MACRA ("Doc Fix") Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, Plan F and Plan C (first dollar coverage) cannot be sold to those NEW TO MEDICARE after January 1, 2020.
