September 15 Update – Getting Ready for AEP

Four Videos here on AEP, including a unique Part D opportunity: Here we talk about what you should be doing to get ready for the Annual Election Period (AEP) which is officially from October 15 through December 7th. During this time of the year, we can write as much business as the previous 9 months. Why? Because every newspaper, radio station, TV station, and billboard companies are flooded with Medicare advertisements and even public service announcements from the government telling folks to review their Medicare plans. This time of the year is focused solely on Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans. However, because of all the activity, we will write a ton. Also, those currently on a Medicare Advantage plan can choose to opt out for January 1. This is done by first applying for a Medicare Supplement and getting underwriting approval (required if not new to Medicare) for a January 1 effective date. Then, when they're approved, they simply sign up during AEP for a new Part D drug plan, which will also start on January 1. So, going forward, their new Medicare Supplement and Part D plan will start January 1 and signing up for the Part D plan kicks them out of the "Advantage" plan automatically. Part D: In my office, the only Part D plan we work with is Silverscript, for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to: You can send an e-mail link to the client and they easily enroll on their own with NO Scope of Appointment needed They are the largest in the country They ONLY do Part D, so they will not try to steal your clients like other MAPD plans do when you write their Part D They are owned by CVS - huge name recognition, but clients do not have to use CVS This year, lower premiums, increased formularies and pharmacies offered ZERO deductible - super easy to explain, this is especially great for those T65 during the year who would, otherwise, still have to meet the full Part D deductible for the year no matter when they started Having added Silverscript in 2016 was one of the best things we have done. The simplicity of asking the folks that have called in what they are doing with their Part D and then just sending them the link to review and sign up has made a big impact, and the clients have loved it. Some things to understand if offering Part D: You cannot advertise for Part D - don't even mention it on your website, trust me. You cannot cold call for Part D. Same Medicare Advantage rules apply on marketing. Do not put out videos mentioning companies, plan information, co-pays, networks, etc. NOTHING Any and all advertising mentioning the above must be plan and CMS approved. Just say no.
