Or both? Google Fi is the answer. This service acts the same as if you're stateside anywhere in the world. I don’t own a home so I won’t have that overhead to worry about, or the long distance landlord headaches, however not owning property raises other concerns like maintaining residency in a state that I don’t live in (while I’m overseas) and don’t own property in. I’m concerned from a tax standpoint and also from a DOI compliance standpoint. Any guidance you or Ross can give will be a big help. You'll need just a residence that you can use as your tax residence. I use my mom's home address even though she's passed. Also, what about mail, both personal and professional? Does he use a forwarding service? I use Earth Class Mail. This is an online service. You have a PO Box and they collect your mail and scan what you need, shred what you don't. I have junk mail go there, import tax stuff goes to my mother's home for my stepdad to collect for me. I’m concerned with limitations/ rules for visas, length of stay rules, when I leave how long do I have to be gone. I know each country is different but wondered where he gets his info for future trips. I don’t want to end up in a Thai prison because I overstayed my visa! Just depends on where you're going. Sometimes you're limited to three months, others six. Some you have to leave for as long as you were there, others (like Thailand) you just need to cross a border and return. It's not too much trouble unless you want to stay for longer than your passport allows by default. Are there any compliance concerns that either of you have for completing applications while overseas? Does he still put his former hometown as where he signed the application? All online! I also use Docsmit to print documents and have them mail them out if that's needed. You can have documents then returned to your PO Box if you want. Google Voice for voicemail which is the same number as your Google Fi cell phone. Then you forward that number also to your Skype In number which you answer from your computer when doing work. Calls to/from Skype are dirt cheap. Calling from Fi overseas is expensive so use Skype. You can also set Skype to show your Fi number on caller IDs. Has he found a good resource detailing each nations healthcare system as it applies to foreign residents / tourists? My family and I have IMG for health insurance. He was not as big as yours though I'm guessing. It can be done but it makes things a lot harder. Limited places you can rent when you arrive. Flights are hard unless the dog likes his/her box. It's also amazing having your dog with you. Ours lived in a dozen countries at least.
